The Nordic/Baltic classification systems

Common hotel-stars in Scandinavia and the Baltic States

Six Nordic and Baltic countries have reached an agreement on the principles for a common system for hotel-stars at a meeting in Copenhagen.

The six countries are Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Iceland, Sweden (Incl. Aaland) and Denmark (Incl. the Faeroe Islands and Greenland).

It is important for the marketing of Scandinavia and the Baltic States that the tourists know what services and facilities they can expect when they book a hotel room. For that reason it is a very big step we have taken, Lone Njor Hulth the general Manager for the Danish hotel organisation HORESTA says.

The six countries have agreed on the minimum criteria that must be meet in order to obtain from 1 to 5 stars. Each of the countries can toughen the demands, but the minimum criteria must be met.

The same hotel star signs will be used in all classified hotels in the six countries. As far as we know it is the first region in the world who has agreed on a common classification system for hotels Lone Njor Hulth says.

She is delighted that the hotel sector by it selves has taken initiative to create transparent consumer guidance.
